The category II-III(V+) Little Manitou Falls to Rail Road bridge sector of Black River is 4.8 miles long. Only those expert in whitewater paddling should attempt to paddle this sweep of Black River. French River has   a great 2.2-mile-in-distance type III-IV whitewater run close by, the Cty 33 to Ryan Road segment. This run of French River is proposed for whitewater paddlers of medium practice. Whitewater boating may become perilous, so check conditions before you go. East Gate Basin is worth visiting since you're here, and Duluth Harbor Basin Northern Section is not far at all.
