Rio Grande is probably not for you. Nearby you come upon the Highway 515 to Dunn Bridge portion, a type IV+ sweep of whitewater. It's a delightful 14-mile-in-length sweep on Red River. If you are a beginner, you should most likely look for a different sweep of whitewater to paddle
than this sweep of Red River. In case you love whitewater, there is the Red River confluence to John Dunn Bridge section, a category II-III whitewater bit on Rio Grande, 8 miles from beginning to end. This section of Rio Grande is recommended for whitewater boaters of medium familiarity. Of course, raft paddling is enjoyable but hazardous; check the latest conditions before you go.
