The Route 58 to US Route 221 sector on Big Reed Island Creek is a nearby category II-III whitewater part, 12.5 miles from beginning to end. This sector of Big Reed Island Creek is recommended for kayak paddlers of medium experience. There's a delightful 11.5-mile-long grade II-III whitewater stretch on Dan River nearby, the Pinnacles Power Plant to Claudville sector. This sector of Dan River is suited for paddlers who have been whitewater boating for a bit but who are not yet ready for the especially treacherous rapids.
