The Linville segment is a delightful 2.5-mile-from-beginning-to-end grade IV-V+ section of whitewater on Catawba River - North Fork. Sugar Mountain nearby is a pleasant ski resort; it gets blanketed by     5 feet of ice cold snow every season; it has 20 slopes, 8 good ski lifts, and a great 1,200-foot height difference. The 115 acres of skiable terrain at Sugar Mountain is liked by skiers from far and wide. Sugar Mountain has 25% red and black slopes and 75% blue and green slopes. 20 acres of ski terrain is on hand to the skiers who show up at Hawksnest in the wintertime; 70% of the slopes are green and blue while 30% are expert and advanced. The 6 feet of fluffy snow that fall yearly at the nearby ski mountain Hawksnest is delightful. Hawksnest has 4 different ski lifts, a nice 619-foot height difference, and 12 slopes. The close by ski resort Ski Beech gets 7 feet of great snow yearly. Ski Beech has 10 ski lifts that serve its 15 ski trails; the altitude difference is 830 feet. There are 95 acres of skiing land at Ski Beech, 30% of   the ski trails are black and red; those are the ones the skilled skiers love the most. 70% of the ski trails at Ski Beech are beginner and intermediate and fitting for young ones and beginners. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Park View Lodge, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are typically in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Park View Lodge.
