12 portion of Johnson Creek is appropriate for whitewater boaters who have been whitewater boating for a while. The 2.5-mile-from-start-to-finish along FR 5270 portion is a type III portion of whitewater on Butter Creek. This part of Butter Creek is a fun part for whitewater kayaking
or rafting. You find the 3.1-mile-from-beginning-to-end Johnson Creek to Craig Road section of Skate Creek nearby; this is a grade III+ whitewater sweep. When the conditions are right this sweep of Skate Creek is an exciting sweep of river for kayak paddling. A type V, 5-mile-long
whitewater stretch can be found on close by Cowlitz River - Muddy Fork, the to Cowlitz River sector. If you are a novice, you should perhaps search for a different stretch of whitewater to raft than this stretch of Cowlitz River - Muddy Fork.
