Everybody likes Sugar Mountain and its 115 acres of skiable land. 75% of the trails are intermediate or beginner while 25% of them are hard and well suited for skilled skiers.
You find the 3.5-mile-in-distance Globe Road to Upton portion of Thunderhole Creek nearby; this is a grade III+ whitewater section. This portion of Thunderhole Creek is great for those with a little bit of raft paddling know-how. A type III-IV(V+), 4.5-mile-long whitewater run can be found on nearby Boone Fork, the Julian Price Park to Watauga portion. This portion of Boone Fork is advised for expert whitewater boaters solely. Don't go whitewater paddling before first checking current conditions; it's hazardous business.
