This segment of Green River is appropriate for paddlers who have been whitewater boating for a bit but who are not yet prepared for the extremely treacherous rapids. The 7-mile-long Halifax Vermont Gorge to Colrain sector is a category II sector of whitewater on North River. This section of North River is tremendous for those lacking a great deal of whitewater experience. A class II-III, 5.6-mile-from-beginning-to-end whitewater sweep can be found on nearby Green River, the West Leyden to covered bridge portion. This portion of Green River is splendid for those with a bit of raft paddling know-how. Unsurprisingly, raft paddling is exciting but treacherous; check current conditions ahead of going. Regardless of your reason for coming here, The Greenfield Inn is a fine site to spend time.
